NZSSRA Championships regattas NISSC/SISSC/Maadi

Maadi New Zealand National Secondary Schools Championships

Every year around late March the NZSSRA holds a National Championship Regatta for secondary school rowing crews (known as Maadi™). At the regatta schools compete for the prestige of winning the Maadi Cup and the Levin 75th Jubilee Cup (the Under 18 Eights events*) and for the ultimate accolade, winning the Star Trophy and being the best rowing secondary school in New Zealand.

The next NZSSRA New Zealand Championship Regattas are:

  • 2018, 19 - 25 March, Lake Ruataniwha
  • 2019, 25 - 31 March, Lake Karapiro
  • 2020, 30 March - 5 April (tbc), venue tbd

North/South Island Championships

Every year in the build up to Maadi and approximately a fortnight before that regatta the NZSSRA holds North and South Island Championship Regattas for secondary school rowing crews. Both Island Championships are run under the same Rules, Regulations and Programme of Events as Maadi; providing schools with a great opportunity for a final tune up before Maadi and the chance to size up their competiton. The next NZSSRA Island Championship Regattas are:

  • 2018 NISSC, 2 - 4 March, Lake Karapiro
  • 2018 SISSC, 3 & 4 March, Lake Ruataniwha
  • 2019 NISSC, 8 - 10 March, Lake Karapiro
  • 2019 SISSC, 8 - 10 March (tbc), Lake Ruataniwha
  • 2020 NISSC, 13 - 15 March (tbc), venue tbd (North Island)
  • 2020 SISSC, 14 & 15 March (tbc), venue tbd (South Island)

Other school regattas

In addition to the NZSSRA Championship Regattas there are also other SSRA or school-focussed regattas held around the country each year. We make the dates and locations of these regattas available in our regatta calendar as we are informed of them.

Entering Regattas

Since 2003 our member schools have had access to Online Regatta Entry (ORE) for major regattas. Entry for our Championhsips regattas is now 100% online. Online entry provides easy access to all the forms required for a regatta and allows a school to enter, update, change or drop crews online.

Unfortunately, because some of the entry forms require signatures and permissions, there will still be documents to print out, sign, scan and send to the regatta organisers. However, with ORE at least completing these becomes much easier!

For all the relevant details regarding entry for the NZSSRA Championship Regatta see regulation 7. Don't forget non-Championship/non-ORE entries (using forms and/or email) are made directly with the regatta host.

Hosting/Running Regattas

For details regarding hosting an NZSSRA Regatta and all the relevant forms, see regulation 6.
